BTS set to preview ‘On’ on TikTok

A sample of “On,” the lead track of K-pop super band BTS’s upcoming album “Map of the Soul: 7,” will hit popular video-sharing service TikTok half a day before the song’s official release this week, TikTok said on Wednesday.

A 30-second video will be released on the video-sharing platform at 6 a.m. on Friday, 12 hours ahead of the official release the same day, according to TikTok.

This will be the first time that BTS will unveil a sample of a new song on social media ahead of its release.

The move is in line with an increasing number of artists in and outside of Korea riding on the popularity of TikTok to market their music. Several K-pop stars have unveiled teasers of their new music releases through TikTok in recent months.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics signed a partnership with the K-pop super band to market its new smartphones, company officials said Wednesday.

Samsung will work with BTS on the boy band’s global contemporary art initiative, “CONNECT, BTS,” and will expand their collaboration to other areas, according to a release from the company.

“CONNECT, BTS” is a global initiative spearheaded in collaboration with curators from five major cities - London, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Seoul and New York City - to connect people from across the world through art.

The art project was designed to dovetail with BTS’s philosophy that centers around diversity, love and care for the periphery.

Samsung didn’t elaborate on its partnership with BTS, but industry insiders expect that the septet will participate in the company’s various promotion and marketing events regarding its new smartphones launched earlier this month.

BTS member V was spotted at Samsung’s “Galaxy Unpacked 2020” in San Francisco last week, where the company unveiled the Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Z Flip smartphones.

“We hope we can deliver a good experience to fans of BTS and Galaxy devices around the globe through collaboration with BTS,” a Samsung official said. “We are planning various activities other than ‘CONNECT BTS.’”
