[Guest Report] Samsung’s latest smartphones flip us right into a speedy 5G future

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung Electronics has introduced a new foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip, that has flipped the clock back to the good old days before smartphones. Following the Galaxy Fold, the Galaxy Z Flip will lead the way for the folding category of Samsung and the Z series. The Galaxy Z Flip features a 6.7-inch display that folds into a stylish and compact form that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. The phone’s display features foldable glass, a first of its kind. The Galaxy Z Flip opens up a new decade of foldable mobile innovation, from its stylish design to its flexible camera experience.

Dr. TM Roh, president and head of mobile communications business at Samsung Electronics, says that through the Galaxy Z Flip’s unique foldable design and user experience, Samsung Electronics is redefining what a mobile device can be and what it can enable consumers to do. He also added that the Galaxy Z Flip is an important next step as the company looks to build the foldable category by bringing customers a new form factor, new display and a new kind of mobile experience.

The phone folds into the size of a wallet and easily fits into your pocket or bag. With its stylish color palette, sleek rounded corners and forward fold that closes with a satisfying snap, the Galaxy Z Flip will easily catch people’s attention. It also comes in an exclusive Thom Browne Edition — a collaboration between the technology company and the iconic New York City fashion brand. “Partnering with Samsung to create the Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition was an opportunity to reimagine how people express themselves through their smartphone,” said Thom Browne. The Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition comes in a grey box with Thom Browne’s signature colors on it and inside, it comes with a Galaxy Watch Active2 with a gray leather strap and matching gray Galaxy Buds+ for a cohesive and connective experience.

The Galaxy Z Flip features an Infinity Flex Display with Samsung’s proprietary bendable ultrathin glass, giving it a slim, premium look. With Samsung’s first-ever 21.9:9 ratio, consumers can enjoy their favorite content in a cinema ratio. Backed by a dual CAM mechanism, the Galaxy Z Flip can stay open at a range of angles like a laptop screen, and the Hideaway Hinge system utilizes Samsung’s new sweeper technology, which uses nylon fibers crafted by micro-height-cutting technology to repel dirt and dust. Another great feature is the Flex mode which automatically splits the two four-inch screens when the device is free standing, and users can control them on the bottom half.

Samsung Galaxy S20

“As we enter this new decade, 5G will completely change how we communicate and how we experience the world around us. As all three Galaxy S20 models come with 5G connectivity, Samsung is providing a next-generation device that will bring new experiences. With its artificial intelligence [AI]-powered camera, you can capture moments as they happen and connect more seamlessly with the people you love,” said Dr. TM Roh.

One of the biggest changes is the entirely new camera system powered by AI and the biggest image sensor ever utilized. With relatively larger image sensors on the Galaxy S20 series, the camera resolution is significantly increased. The S20 and S20+ models have a 64-megapixel camera while the S20 Ultra model has a 108-megapixel camera. Through large sensors, users can experience rich image quality even in low-light situations. The Galaxy S20’s Space Zoom technology uses a combination of Hybrid Optic Zoom and Super Resolution Zoom, which includes AI-powered digital zoom. The Galaxy S20 and S20+ allow up to 30x zoom, while the S20 Ultra, which uses AI-powered multi-image processing, allows Super Resolution Zoom up to 100x with a clearer view ever than before. Users can share their 8K videos on YouTube directly thanks to a partnership between Samsung and YouTube.

In addition, it has become easier to video chat with people with Galaxy S20. Through deep integration with Google Duo, Galaxy S20 enables the users to experience enhanced video chatting in full high-definition quality for the first time ever. Users are able to speak with up to eight friends at once through Google Duo which is compatible across operating systems.
