Korea Communications Commission unveils funding for local broadcasters

The Korea Communications Commission announced the finalists for its annual funding program for local broadcasters on Monday.

The commission annually receives applications from local broadcasting companies to help fund their programs. This year, a total of 144 programs from 33 companies were selected, including a program about the role of women in war by MBC’s Chuncheon branch and a documentary about pansori (Korean traditional narrative singing) singer Lee Hwajung-seon by Korea New Network, a broadcasting company based in Busan.

“We have selected local and small- and medium-sized broadcasting companies to support,” the commission said in its statement Monday. “This way we can encourage companies to produce a variety of programs for a wider audience.”
