‘Bupyeong Dungeon’ wins the first Lotte Cultureworks Horror Contest

Lotte Cultureworks announced writer Im Seo-hoo’s zombie horror comedy “Bupyeong Dungeon” (translated) as the winner of their first Horror Contest on Thursday.

The winner was selected out of 274 stories submitted from Feb. 4 to 20.

The story is about a foul-mouthed cleaning lady who possesses a zombie antibody after escaping the zombie-filled underground shopping district of Bupyeong with her daughter. She hopes to make some money off of selling the antibody.

“The story’s unique imagination brings vivacity into commercial film industry,” one of the judges director Jung Bum-shik commented.

The winner will be given a prize money of 30 million won and a trophy, while the story will be made into a feature film through film production company Hive Media Corporation. The company produced films such as director Jung’s “Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum” (2016) and director Woo Min-ho’s “The Drug King” (2017) and most recently “The Man Standing Next” (2019).
