Popular comic ‘The Hell’ to be made into a Netflix original series

Director Yeon Sang-ho’s web comic “The Hell” is to be made into a Netflix original series, the streaming service announced on Thursday.

Currently being uploaded on web portal Naver, “The Hell” takes place in a world where one day, grim reapers start arriving on Earth to take away “bad” people to hell. The comic depicts various versions of people’s fears, confusion and chaos created through this supernatural phenomenon.

The web comic drew focus from comic fans when it was revealed that Yeon wrote the story while popular cartoonist Choi Gyu-seok drew the comics.

For the Netflix original series, the director will take the helm, and he and Choi will collaborate on the script.

Last month the director wrapped up the tvN drama series “The Cursed” as a scriptwriter. “Peninsula,” his follow-up of zombie blockbuster “Train to Busan” (2016) is scheduled for theatrical release this summer.
