CEO Han Sung-soo of Pledis Entertainment has given up all the copyrights of the songs he produced for project girl group IZ*ONE after rumors circulated that he registered the name of his wife as a producer to make more money from the tracks.
Pledis Entertainment announced on Monday night that Han has given up all copyrights to the eight songs he produced for IZ*ONE, including "Memory" (2018), "Violetta" (2019) and "Open Your Eyes" (2020).
"He will also return the copyright fees he received in the past from the songs to the original songwriters," the agency said.
Last month, local news outlet Dispatch reported that Han had registered his name, along with the name of his wife, as producers of the songs even though he had already been paid by CJ ENM as the general director of IZ*ONE.
Han has been directing all outcomes of IZ*ONE since it debuted in 2018 with the final 12 contestants of Mnet's audition program "Produce 48," including its debut release to the recent full-length album in March this year.
"It was foolish of me to register my wife's name. But we only wanted to be paid for our work," Han said, explaining that both he and his wife had worked on the songs.
"He has worked out all the copyright issues and returned the money to the original songwriters," Pledis said on Tuesday.
