Korean tech companies Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics won dozens of Innovation Awards ahead of the 2021 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on Wednesday.

Samsung received a total of 44 Innovation Awards this year, including four “Best of Innovation” titles for the production of the Galaxy Note 20, wireless earbuds Galaxy Buds+ BTS Edition and other display products.

The electronics maker took 46 awards last year, its best performance.

For the general Innovation Awards, it won in a wide variety of categories, including displays, wearables, chips and smart home.

In terms of product category, television grabbed the most awards, at 16, followed by mobile devices with 11.

Samsung's new-format display products gained the most recognition.

The Premiere, a smart projector released earlier this year that offers 4K picture quality and comes in two models — one designed to offer a 130-inch projection and the other 120-inch - received an award, as did The Terrace Soundbar, a sound system for The Terrace, Samsung’s first television specifically built for outdoor viewing.

In the home appliance sector, the latest models from Family Hub, a connected refrigerator brand, and Bespoke, a customizable lineup, also won awards.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the owner and organizer of the annual trade show, announces the honorees every year as the competition selects consumer technology products across 28 product categories based on design and engineering. The “Best of Innovation” recognition is only given to those rated the highest in each product category.

This year’s CES will be run entirely online from Jan. 11 through 14.

Samsung has yet to announce the specific items to be showcased at the show, but it has unveiled its theme "a better normal for all" with the main press event set for Jan. 11.

LG Electronics won 24 Innovation Awards, the highest ever for the Seoul-based tech company, including two Best of Innovation Awards.

All of the awards went to televisions and home appliances.

As the world’s biggest producer of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), LG won the Best of Innovation Award for the company’s OLED display technology.

The Styler steam closet also won an Innovation Award for its advanced techniques like TrueSteam, which sprays fine water steam to reduce wrinkles and odors and sanitizes fabric.

LG is also set to participate in the digital trade show this year, but has yet to reveal the key products.
