Shinsegae Department Store has introduced a service that allows customers purchasing clothes online to pick up the orders at a counter at the main branch in central Seoul.

It is part of the retailer’s effort to expand online-to-offline services to improve convenience, the department store said on Wednesday.

Before, customers had to drop by the counters of each brand to pick up what they purchased online. Now, there is an exclusive space where they can pick up all the clothes at once.

They can try on the clothes at the site, and return clothes they purchased at the offline counter.

The service, named Expressg, is available only at the main branch, and the items are limited to apparel. But Shinsegae Department Store plans to increase the number of pickup locations and also extend pickup service hours.

Currently, the pickup hours start at 8 a.m. — earlier than the department store’s opening hour at 10:30 a.m. It is also planning to operate an unmanned 24-hour pickup service.

Shinsegae Department Store’s online sales from January through November rose 19.8 percent compared to the same months last year. During the same period, the number of customers who placed an order on SSG.com and picked them up at an offline store jumped 34 percent.

Shinsegae Department Store “plans to provide a differentiated service that combines the strengths of offline and online sales channels through cooperation with SSG.com,” said a spokesperson for the department store in a statement, adding that the department store will “become a leader of customer lifestyle.”
