Lotte Corporation on Monday announced an online memorial for Lotte Group founder Shin Kyuk-ho.

Shin passed away at the age of 98 in January last year from a chronic illness.

A video remembering Shin’s life, Shin’s achievements and his quotes is available online.

“My father wanted to contribute to the country and society through endless passion and challenges based on his deep love for the country,” said Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin in a video featured in the online memorial, saying he “will overcome any kinds of struggles, remembering my father’s words that strong will is of the utmost importance.”

He added, “Today, I particularly miss my father. I have realized how big the empty spot is.”

Ban Ki-moon, the chair of the National Council on Climate and Air Quality and former United Nations secretary-general and former Prime Minister of Korea Lee Hong-koo were among those who left commemorative speeches for Shin.

The online memorial, which began Monday, will continue through Friday.

It is only accessible to Lotte employees.
