PLAS Contemporary Art Show to run from May 16-19
The sixth edition of the PLAS Contemporary Art Show, an annual art fair focusing on sculptures, will be held from May 16 to 19 at COEX in southern Seoul. A total of 89 galleries will present 2,500 pieces by 700 artists.
“We managed to open the show offline last year amid the pandemic and received enthusiastic responses from both the participating galleries and the visitors,” said Shon Sung-ye, chairman of the PLAS operating committee.
“This year, we will enrich the offline PLAS show with a new special exhibition of 33 sculptors and an exhibit of large sculptures [fit for decoration of buildings and public spaces], which is our trade mark, while holding an online show on our renovated homepage," said Shin Jun-won, director of the PLAS.
The special exhibition of 33 sculptors will also call on audiences to cast a vote for their favorites works. The two artists with the most votes will win awards.
This year's exhibit of large sculptures, which has been the highlight of the PLAS art fair for years, will feature 13 artists including Kim Sung Bok, Kwon Chi Gyu and Park Chan-girl. The main targets of the art fair are two very different kinds of collectors — companies including builders that are interested in large sculptures and individuals looking for smaller sculptures at affordable prices, according to the organizers.
Tickets cost 13,000 won ($11.60) for adults. For more information, visit www.plasticartseoul.com or call (02) 3446-3031.
