'Travel bubble' tours will start with a whole lot of rules

Korea will reopen its borders to fully-vaccinated tourists traveling in groups from countries where the Covid-19 outbreak has subsided, including Singapore, Taiwan and Guam, as early as next month.

한국은 이르면 다음달부터 코로나19 백신 접종 완료자들에게는 한국행 단체 여행의 문을 다시 열 계획이다. 대상지역은 코로나19 발생이 진정된 싱가포르, 대만, 괌 등이다.

국토교통부와 문화체육관광부는 수요일 자가격리 의무를 면제해주는 트래블 버블(여행안전권역)을 추진하는 계획을 발표했다. 발표문에는 “국제 교류와 관광 회복을 향한 첫 걸음”이라고 썼다.

So far, talks are underway with Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the U.S. Pacific territories of Guam and Saipan, places with “mutual confi dence recognizing each other's stable coronavirus conditions,” the statement continued.

한국 정부는 그동안 “상대국의 코로나19 상황이 안정된 것으로 상호 신뢰하는” 싱가포르, 대만, 태국, 미국령 괌, 사이판 등과 트래블 버블 추진 의사를 타진해 왔다.

The list is expected to change depending on countries’ virus situations. Only individuals on group tours who have been fully vaccinated will be allowed, officials said. They are easier to monitor through travel agencies.

그 나라의 방역 상황에 따라 대상 국가가 달라질 수 있다. 단체 관광으로만 백신 접종 완료자의 입국이 허용된다. 여행사를 통해서 쉽게 추적 관찰할 수 있기 때문이다.

Tourists will be required to stick with their groups and not make visits to family members or acquaintances living in Korea.

여행객들은 단체관광에 머물러야 하고 한국에 사는 가족이나 지인을 방문해서는 안된다.
