On June 27, 2018, Korea knocked Germany out of the World Cup with captain Son Heung-min scoring the insurance goal in the 2-0 win, creating one of the most memorable moments in Korean football history.

2018년 6월 27일, 한국은 월드컵에서 독일을 상대로 손흥민이 쐐기골을 넣으면서 2대 0 승리를 거두고 한국 축구 역사를 새로이 썼다.

Almost exactly three years later, on Tuesday, England knocked Germany out of the 2020 Euros with captain Harry Kane scoring the insurance goal in the 2-0 win. On both occasions — the last two major tournaments that Germany has competed in — it was the Tottenham Hotspur attacking duo that put the final nail in the coffin.

그로부터 약 3년이 지난 6월 29일, 영국은 UEFA 유로2020에서 독일을 상대로 해리 케인이 쐐기꼴을 넣으면서 2대 0 승리를 거두었다. 독일이 출전한 두번의 메이저 대회 모두 토트넘의 공격 듀오가 결정적인 역할을 한 것이다.

Korea's 2-0 victory in 2018 was the more dramatic one. At the time, Germany were the No. 1 ranked team in the world, while Korea was ranked at No. 57.

하지만 2018년 한국의 2대 0 승리가 더 극적이었다. 당시, 독일은 세계 1위 팀이었고 한국은 57위 팀이었기 때문이다.

Despite the odds stacked in Germany's favor, neither team was able to get anything across in 90 minutes. It wasn't until injury time in the second half when Korea struck, twice. Kim Young-gwon scored the opener at 92 minutes, hammering the ball past the goalkeeper in the middle of the box to take the score to 1-0.

독일에게 유리한 게임이었음에도 불구하고, 양 팀은 득점 없이 후반전을 마치면서 연장전에 나섰다. 연장전에서야 한국이 두 골을 넣으면서 대이변을 만들었다. 연장 전반 2분 김영권의 강슈팅이 골키퍼와 골대 중앙을 지나치고 골망을 흔들면서 한국이 1-0으로 앞섰다.

Son's chance came minutes later, when the German goalkeeper was robbed of the ball deep in Korea's half. A long cross picked out Son at the other end of the pitch, and the captain slotted the ball straight into the empty goal.

손흥민의 기회는 얼마 지나지 않은 후 찾아왔다. 독일 골키퍼가 하프라인을 완전히 넘어와 있을 때 독일이 공을 빼앗기면서 손흥민 쪽으로 전방을 향해 공이 길게 연결이 되었고, 손흥민이 빈 골대로 공을 밀어넣으면서 마무리지었다.

Both Korea and Germany crashed out of the World Cup, but Korea did so with their heads held high, leaving the tournament as giant-killers.

England entered the tournament with better odds — they're ranked at No. 4 in the world to Germany's No. 12 — but with a long track record of bottling it in big moments, victory was by no means guaranteed.

세계 4위 영국은 12위 독일에 비해 승산이 높았지만, 중요한 순간에 완패해온 전력이 길었기 때문에 결코 승리를 장담할 수 없었다.

Again, both teams were level pegging until the very end of the game. Raheem Sterling broke through in the 75th minute, giving England a 1-0 lead. Kane's head sealed the deal in the 86th, with Germany again being sent home after a 2-0 defeat.

양 팀은 과거 한국과 독일의 경기처럼 경기의 끝자락까지 0대 0 동점을 이어갔다. 라힘 스털링이 후반 30분에 골을 터뜨리면서 영국이 1대 0으로 앞섰다. 후반 41분 케인이 헤딩으로 쐐기골을 넣으면서 독일은 영국을 상대로 2대 0으로 패한 채로 돌아가야 했다.
