Drying Buddhist scriptures

Over 100 Buddhist monks are drying the Tripitaka Koreana, or the complete collection of Buddhist scriptures on wood blocks, at Haein Temple in Hapcheon County, South Gyeongsang, on Monday. Parts of the scripture have been dried before, but this is the first time in 123 years that all 1,270 blocks have been brought outside to be dried. The wood blocks need to be dried after Korea’s rainy season because they tend to retain moisture from the air and rot. [YONHAP]
