Korea Ginseng Corporation, or KGC, published an English edition of “A History of the Korean Ginseng Industry,” a book on the history of domestic ginseng industry.

Originally published in Korean back in 2019, “A History of the Korean Ginseng Industry” encompasses the past and the present of the Korean ginseng industry which came to be recognized worldwide. The author unpacked the industry’s development process based on voluminous data, KGC explained.

“A History of the Korean Ginseng Industry” has been highly acclaimed for shedding light on the history of the domestic ginseng industry, by supplying the historical and scientific evidence for ginseng’s effectiveness.

The book was named one of the Sejong Books, which is a collection of books selected and promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2019.

The English edition of “A History of the Korean Ginseng Industry” consists of seven chapters, as two volumes of the Korean version had been bound into one with some additional updates. The book goes through the history of Korean ginseng starting from a fossil dating back to 40 million years ago up to the modern era.

Chang Il-moo, the author of the book, is an honorary professor at Seoul National University and also a panel member on the traditional medicine at the World Health Organization.

“I strongly felt that we need to look back at the history of Korean ginseng, a speciality representing Korea, by finding the roots of Korean ginseng,” the author said. “I hope the English edition will help foreigners be more informed and correct misunderstandings about Korean ginseng.”
