Applying for money

Business owners apply to receive government compensation for losses they have suffered due to the government’s social distancing regulations at Dongjak District Office in southern Seoul on Wednesday. The government started accepting offline applications for the compensation from small- and medium-sized enterprises and small shop owners that day. The compensations cover up to 80 percent of the losses between July 7 and Sept. 30 compared to the same period in 2019. The maximum ceiling is set at 100 million won ($84,000) with a minimum compensation of 100,000 won. The government has been accepting applicants online since Oct. 27. According to the government, as of Nov. 1 a total of 1.8 trillion won was given as compensation to 620,000 applicants. That’s roughly 56 percent of the total compensation budget. [YONHAP]
