Posco Chemical completed the construction of a factory able to produce 21,700 tons of unburned refractories, the company said Wednesday.
Refractories are ceramic materials designed to withstand very high temperatures of up to 1,000 degrees Celsius (1,832 degrees Fahrenheit). They are used to line boilers and furnaces.
Posco Chemical said that the production of refractories at the factory, located in Pohang, North Gyeongsang, is automated and therefore is more efficient and offers a safer work environment.
The company spent 49.2 billion won ($44 million) to build the factory with a gross area of 4,759 square meters (51,225 square feet).
Construction for the factory began in 2020.
Posco Chemical had the capacity to produce 114,000 tons of refractories annually before the opening of the new factory.
