Orion, a food company behind Choco Pie, named Lee Seung-joon as its new CEO on Wednesday.
The announcement was a part of the company’s annual personnel reshuffle.
Lee, who started working for Orion in 1989, is head of the research and development division at the company. He was behind the creation of Orion products like the Kkobuk chip snack, Dr. You protein bars and granola products loved by customers in and outside of Korea, according to Orion.
Lee also worked at the research and development division of Orion Food China, its subsidiary.
Orion runs three subsidiaries abroad in China, Russia and Vietnam. Its products are sold in around 60 countries.
“The latest appointment was carried out to preemptively respond to the rapidly changing market and consumer needs to strengthen our capacity as a comprehensive global food company,” said Orion in a statement.
It added that the appointment was made considering Lee’s expertise in research and development and ability to carry out localized strategies.
The appointment became effective Wednesday.
