Samsung SDI names Choi Yoon-ho as CEO

Samsung SDI named Choi Yoon-ho, chief financial officer of Samsung Electronics, as its CEO Tuesday.

The previous CEO, Jun Young-hyun, has been promoted to vice chairman and will continue to serve as the battery maker’s board's chair.

“Jun was promoted to vice chairman considering his achievement in expanding Samsung SDI’s battery business and pulling off record-high performances,” the company said in a release Tuesday.

“Jun as a board chair will contribute to fortifying ESG management and fostering younger generation."

Choi, a Sungkyunkwan University graduate, has served in various posts at Samsung Electronics since 1987 including overseas business and corporate management.

“With experience in global business and finance, Samsung SDI expects the appointment of Choi will lead to great fortification of Samsung SDI’s global business competitiveness," the company said.
