Fans of “Squid Game” will be happy to hear that the hit Netflix Korea original series is not only returning for a season 2, but potentially a third season as well.
In an online interview with local broadcaster KBS on Tuesday, its creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said that he is “discussing with Netflix about creating both season 2 and 3” of the series.
“I think that some kind of conclusion will be due soon,” Hwang said. “We are aware that everyone is waiting [for the next season to come out] so we’re all trying to think positively about the creation of the next season.”
Hwang also hinted about what’s to come for the next season.
“It will be centered about Sung Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae),” he said. “The overall narrative will center around the people Gi-hun meets, and the people that he will be chasing after.”
“Squid Game” is based on 456 contestants who take part in children’s games with a deadly twist for the chance to win 45.6 billion won ($38.6 million).
Since its release on the streaming service on Sept. 17, "Squid Game" has become Netflix's most-viewed content with more than 140 million households watching the series.
