Samsung SDI launched a battery brand called PRiMX to emphasize its superior technology and quality.

PRiMX stands for “Prime Battery for Maximum Experience,” according to the company Wednesday.

“PRiMX is a battery brand that conveys Samsung SDI’s unique identity,” Michael Son, executive vice president at Samsung SDI said in a release Wednesday.

“We will develop the brand to reach the pinnacle of technology.”

Samsung SDI said it will strengthen quality control of its batteries’ manufacturing process, conducting strict quality inspections using advanced defect detection algorithms and artificial intelligence.

It said it will enhance battery performance by using high-nickel cathodes and silicon anodes, material that decide the battery’s output and mileage.

PRiMX batteries will offer super-fast charging technology.

“PRiMX will encompass all battery types Samsung SDI has developed and will develop in the future including the solid-state batteries that will come in the future,” a Samsung SDI spokesman said Wednesday.

Samsung SDI's nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) battery called Gen. 5 will be included in the PRiMX brand, according to the spokesman.
Samsung SDI ranks third in Korea and sixth globally in terms of market share for battery supplies for electric vehicles (EVs).

According to Seoul-based market tracker SNE Research, Samsung SDI accounted for 4.5 percent of the global EV battery market this year through November, posting 60.7 percent year-on-year growth in sales.
