Mercedes-Benz Korea plans to fortify its digital platform for better customer experiences in 2022.

The German importer and distributor said Tuesday it will launch a new mobile app where customers can make reservations for their after-sales services.

“In 2021, 13 percent of our customers made reservations via the online website,” said Thilo Grossmann, vice president at Mercedes-Benz Korea in charge of customer services at an online press conference Tuesday.

With the launch of the new app, that figure will increase to 25 percent, according to Grossmann, meaning one out of four customers will make reservations online.

“Digital transformation is the top priority for Mercedes-Benz Korea’s customer services in 2022,” he said.

The company will also start selling after-sales products such as car accessories and other brand collections online from this year.

Mercedes-Benz Korea's digital platform initiative started last year when it launched an online sales platform for not only its new cars but also certified secondhand cars.

This year, the brand plans to take the service a step further by launching online-only editions and adding a car comparison service.

Some 500 purchases were made through the online platform last year, the company said.

Mercedes-Benz retained its top position in Korea’s import car market for the sixth consecutive year in 2021.

It delivered 76,152 units last year, 0.9 percent less than the previous year. It was closely trailed by BMW which delivered 65,669 units with 12.5 year-on-year growth.

Mercedes-Benz Korea hopes to solidify its top position once again this year with the launches of major electric models.

It plans to launch the Mercedes-AMG EQS, entering the country’s still fledgling high-performance electric car market for the first time. It will also launch the EQB, the electric equivalent of Mercedes’ compact SUV GLB, followed by the EQE, the electric equivalent of Mercedes’ bestselling E-Class sedan.

The EQE has a driving range of 660 kilometers (410 miles) per charge based on Europe’s WLTP standards.

Last year, Mercedes-Benz Korea launched two new electric models: the EQA and the EQS.

The EQA was able to deliver 886 units last year on the back of its relatively cheap price and the EQS 136 units.
