Netflix’s smash hit “Squid Game” is the first non-English drama series to be nominated for the Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards.

PGA announced on Thursday its nominations for the 33rd annual PGA Awards, which will be held on March 19 at Los Angeles. The ceremony recognizes and honors producers for films and television.

“Squid Game” was nominated in the Best Episodic Drama category, the winner of which will receive the Norman Felton Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Drama. It is competing against Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show,” HBO’s “Succession” and Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone.”

Entertainment news outlet Deadline reported, “[Squid Game] has been breaking ground as the first non-English language TV series to land major US awards recognition […] [and] became the first non-English language show to earn a PGA Award nomination.”

Other Hollywood guilds, the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) Awards, the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) Awards, the Art Directors Guild (ADG) Awards and the Costume Designers Guild (CDG) Awards have also given nominations to “Squid Game.”
