Huons Global has appointed 58-year-old Song Soo-young as president, the biopharmaceutical company said Thursday.

The hire comes as the company seeks to change its corporate structure in order to achieve sustainable growth in the fast-changing business environment. The appointment became effective Thursday.

CEO Yoon Sung-tae is son of the company’s founder and owns 44 percent of the company.

President is a recently created position, and Song is the first to be hired for the job.

Song, who studied industrial engineering at the Hanyang University, started his career at Samsung Electronics in 1989. He then moved to Japan and worked for SAP Japan and PwC Japan. In 2009, he joined Deloitte Consulting Japan, and became the CEO in 2018.

Song then moved to Deloitte Consulting Korea in 2019, and served as the CEO there until last year.

“Reform in management structure is essential in order to grow as a company that has capability to respond to the future and achieve bigger growth,” Song said in Thursday’s statement. “I will accomplish a quantum leap by maximizing the potential of the company’s growth momentum.”

Established in 1965 as a biopharmaceutical company, Huons Global now has a total of 14 subsidiaries, three of which are listed on the Korea Exchange. As of the end of September, Huons Global owns 40.9 percent of Huons, 40.6 percent of Humedix and 75 percent of Huons BioPharma.
