Korean skeleton athlete Kim Eun-ji finished her first two runs at her first-ever Olympics on Friday and sits at 23rd place ahead of the third heat.

Kim debuted on the big stage at 29-years-old, after taking up skeleton in 2016. Before then, Kim had been a long jump athlete.

Kim did not represent Korea at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, but was able to try the tracks as a demonstrating athlete, checking track conditions. Four years later, Kim is the only female athlete to represent Korea at the Beijing Games.

At Yanqing National Sliding Centre, Kim was the 24th athlete to start the first heat, marking 5.24 seconds at the start. After bumping twice against the track, Kim crossed the finish line 22nd with time of 1:03.28, 1.25 seconds behind leader Mirela Rahneva of Canada.

Then Kim marked a time of 1:03.68 in her second heat, 1.49 seconds behind Jaclyn Narracott of Australia, finishing 23rd in the second heat. Her total time of 2:06.96 put her in 23rd position out of 25 contesters after the two heats. Kim’s fastest speed was 122 kilometers per hour.

The third heat will take place on Saturday with only the 20 best sleds taking part in the last heat later in the evening.
