A Russian YouTuber based in Korea who runs the channel “Soviet girl in Seoul” has responded to malicious comments on her content. The comments follow a doping scandal surrounding a Russian figure skater at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The YouTuber, whose real name is Kristina Andrejevna Ovcinnikova, uploaded a video on Thursday evening titled “Russia war, clarification on doping in Olympics” in Korean and stated her stance upon the matters.

At the beginning of the video, text appears that reads “the video was filmed on Feb. 18 before Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine.

“Since it was shot before the outbreak of the war, please understand that the content is focused more on the doping controversy rather than the war,” she continued.

“Although it was initially decided that I wouldn’t post the video after the news of the war broke, people continued to ask for clarification and criticized my silence, which is why I decided to upload it.”

In the video, she says, “my specialty is to rebuke Russia but I was too busy watching [Netflix series] ‘All of Us Are Dead [to give my explanation],” she said. “Is this my fault?”

“I’m sorry that I couldn’t stop Russia from doping,” she said. “If I’d known, I would have done my best to prevent it.”

She also comments on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“No war,” she said, crossing her arms to make an "X." “No matter what the cause is, there should never be a war.”

At the end of the video, she declares, “To the citizens of South Korea, as of today, I declare a boycott against Russia.

“Since I gave out my explanation, I’ll come back after spending some time to self-reflect.”

“Soviet girl in Seoul” has over 1.13 million subscribers and mainly features content such as mukbang and reviews on Korean content, which she does in Korean.
