International Women's Day competition opens

To celebrate International Women's Day, the British Embassy in Seoul and the Korea JoongAng Daily are holding a writing competition through March 8.

The contest is limited to female entrants from 14 to 18, and the question for the essay is: "If you could be an ambassador for a day, how would you use your power and influence to make a positive change in society?"

Submissions should be no longer than one page and can be written in Korean or English. They should be sent to [email protected] with the following information: the student's name, date of birth, phone number and school name.

The top 2 winners’ prize consists of shadowing the British Ambassador for a day at the British Embassy, with 8 runners up being given the chance to participate in a Model UN competition in Seoul.

The rules of participation in the Ambassador for a Day campaign are as follows:

- Winners must be available to travel to Seoul on 16 March 2022 for first prize, and 22 March 2022 for second prize.
- Winners must have a chaperone, who is over 21 years old (parent, teacher, guardian) in order to travel to Seoul in March 2022.
- The winners as well as their chaperones must have valid ID.
- Winners agree to be photographed and/or filmed during public engagements within the Ambassador for a Day campaign in order to promote the initiative provided that the photos/videos do not prejudice their dignity and reputation.

The British Embassy Seoul will cover travel and accommodation expenses for the winners and their chaperone to visit Seoul.

Winners of the competition will be announced on March 11. For queries, please call 02-2031-1295.
