Ioniq 5 was named the UK Car of the Year 2022, Hyundai Motor said Tuesday.

It was selected from 10 vehicles chosen as the top winners in each of 10 categories. Ioniq 5 was also named Best Family Car, praised for making “going electric easy” and being “innovative, desirable, practical, and brilliantly designed to make full use of its electric-only platform."

Other candidates included Toyota's Yaris Cross, which won the Best Small Crossover, BMW's iX that was awarded the Best Large Crossover, and Porsche's Taycan won the Best Luxury award.

This year's judging panel comprises 29 motoring journalists based in Britain, Hyundai said.

"The Hyundai Ioniq 5 feels like the future of motoring," said John Challen, editor and managing director of the UK Car of the Year Awards. "The design, performance and practicality make it a fantastic proposition for those looking for an electric vehicle, and also a very worthy winner of the title ‘UK Car of the Year 2022’.”
