Experts from around the world are coming together to discuss Netflix’s influence on Hallyu, or the Korean wave, in a two-day global conference in Seoul on April 8 and 9.
Titled “Is Netflix Riding the Korean Wave or Vice Versa?,” the conference is being co-organized by the Institute of East and West Studies at Yonsei University and the Center for Hallyu Studies at Seoul National University’s Asia Center.
It will be held at the Seoul National University’s Asia Center Young One Hall and livestreamed via YouTube.
Jin Dal-yong, a Distinguished Professor at the School of Communication at Canada's Simon Fraser University and Lee Sang-Joon, a Professor of Asian Cinema at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, will also take part as an organizing member.
Forty-five Hallyu scholars from around the world will take part. Hwang Dong-hyuk, who directed the Netflix original series “Squid Game” (2021) took part in a pre-arranged interview that will be played during the conference.
