Korean film 'Broker' invited to compete for Palme d’Or

The Korean film “Broker,” starring actors Song Kang-ho, Gang Dong-won, Bae Doo-na and Lee Ji-eun (better known as singer-songwriter IU), has been invited to compete for the Palme d’Or of the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
 
The Palme d’Or is the highest prize given at the festival.
 
“Broker” was directed by Hirokazu Koreeda, who is Japanese. It is Koreeda’s first attempt at producing a Korean movie. He won the Palme d’Or at the 71st edition for Japanese film “Shoplifters” (2018).

“Broker” follows a group of characters that embark on a journey to find a new family for a baby who was found abandoned in a box.
 
The official posters show the actors in a van on what looks to be a road trip.
 
The film is set to premiere in June.
 
The 75th edition of Cannes will run from May 17 to 28. Another Korean film “Decision to Leave” by renowned filmmaker Park Chan-wook will also compete against “Broker.”
