CJ AI Center was opened on Wednesday with the aim of providing computing and data-related services.
The center will focus on projects related to the use of data for retail, commerce and logistics and the harvesting and processing of customer data. It says it will use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the efficiency of companies.
Lee Chi-hoon, head of the CJ AI Center, said at the opening ceremony held Wednesday, that he aims to develop the center as a hub for AI projects. Infrastructure and data that have been handled by individual companies in the past will be handled centrally at the center.
Seoul National University's Artificial Intelligence Institute, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology are some potential partners the AI center named.
"Technology creates new value in today's society," Lee said. "We plan to develop innovative and sustainable systems to create advanced socio-cultural paradigms."
CJ Olive Young uses collected customer data to recommend products on its websites and applications. CJ Logistics developed a supply chain solution that allows employees to monitor the flow of inbound and outbound parcels at logistics centers and finds the most efficient operating method.
