Girl group Kep1er’s debut single “Wa Da Da” was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), the association revealed Wednesday.
“Wa Da Da” was certified gold in March, just three months following its release, after accumulating over 50 million streams.
The song achieved the gold status faster than any other debut song from a K-pop girl group.
The association certifies songs with over 30 million streams as silver, 50 million as gold, 100 million as platinum and 500 million as diamond.
The music video for “Wa Da Da” surpassed 100 million views on YouTube on April 18.
Kep1er debuted in January after being formed last summer through Mnet’s multinational idol audition show “Girls Planet 999.” The group consists of nine members: Yujin, Chaehyun, Dayeon, Youngeun and Yeseo who are Korean, Xiaoting who is Chinese, Mashiro and Hikaru who are Japanese and Huening Bahiyyih who is Korean-American.
