Hana Financial Group said Wednesday it donated 800 million won ($631,000) to the non-profit organization Save the Children.

The donation will be used to provide medical support and help children who have been victims of abuse, according to Hana.

The donation was made as part of Hana Financial Group’s support program Hana Power On Care, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Children’s Day on May 5 in Korea.

Through the program, Hana will provide children with emergency support, short- and long-term mental care, and financial support for refurbishing child-care facilities and purchasing necessary supplies.

“I hope this support program will lead to the healthy growth of children, who are the hope of the future,” said Hana Financial Group Chairman Ham Young-joo, who also promised to “continue to make efforts so that children who suffered abuse will be able to return to carefree lives.”

As part of its corporate responsibility program, Hana Financial Group has opened daycare centers in regions lacking such facilities. The company has supported the establishment of a total of 49 public daycare centers and opened 9 daycare centers in its workplaces in Seoul, Busan and Gwangju among others. The company plans to open 42 daycare centers by 2023.
