Metaverse developer VA Corporation acquired ROOT M&C, an immersive content production studio, for an undisclosed amount, the company said Monday.
VA Corporation is a metaverse platform and content developer founded in January last year. It has received investments from major tech companies such as LG Electronics and game companies including Pearl Abyss and Com2uS.
Buying ROOT M&C, a company that specializes in the production of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) content, will broaden VA Corporation’s portfolio and lead to films and dramas using the latest visual effects, VA Corporation said.
For the first project, the two companies will co-produce a new type of audition program to air on cable channel MBN June. Titled “Avatar Singer,” the program will be a singing audition program but with virtual avatars fighting for a winning spot.
“VA Corporation plans to build a close-knit network between its subsidiaries, including ROOT M&C,” the company said in a press release. “We will diversify our business models by fortifying the technologies and value chain we own.”
VA Corporation has nine subsidiaries under its wing, including visual effects company mofac, film distributor Acemaker Movieworks and content production company Focus X.
