Tottenham Hotspur will take on La Liga club Sevilla at Suwon World Cup Stadium in Suwon, Gyeonggi on July 16 in the second exhibition game of the Coupang Play Series.
Both clubs announced on their respective social media pages on Tuesday that they will face off on July 16.
For Tottenham the match will be the second in the Coupang Play Series, following a game against a team made up of the K League's best players at Seoul World Cup Stadium in Mapo District, western Seoul on July 13. As well as playing the two games, the club will hold a series of events for fans, including offering a chance to meet the players and receive some football coaching.
Sevilla announced on its website that it plans to tour Korea from July 8 to July 17, marking the club's first visit to the country. No other fixtures have been announced, but its possible that other games could be scheduled prior to the Tottenham match.
The Tottenham vs. Sevilla match-up could make for a good game for Korean fans. Both clubs finished fourth in their respective leagues this season, suggesting that they ought to be reasonably well matched.
While Tottenham brings the obvious appeal in the form of Korean national team captain and reigning Premier League Golden Boot recipient Son Heung-min, Sevilla also offers an interesting opportunity: The chance to see midfielder Erik Lamela reconnect with his old friends at Tottenham.
Lamela played for Tottenham from 2013 to 2021, working closely with Son after he joined the club in 2015. He moved to Sevilla last year.
With Son and Lamela both on the pitch there's a chance that some pretty exceptional football might be on display — the duo are the last two winners of the FIFA Puskas award given to the one player in the world that is recognized as having scored the most aesthetically pleasing goal in the previous calendar year. Son won the award for 2020 and Lamela for 2021.
