The Westinghouse executives, including CEO Patrick Fragman, Asia Region president Gavin Liu and regional vice president Jung Kim, are scheduled to hold meetings with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Korean energy companies, including Korea Electric Power Corp., Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Korea Plant Service & Engineering.
The meetings are to be held Wednesday and Thursday.
The visit by the Westinghouse CEO is the first since May 2019, when then CEO Jose Emeterio Gutierrez visited Jeju to attend an annual atomic power conference.
According to Kepco, the two sides will be making an announcement on cooperating in the nuclear power market.
Recently U.S. President Joe Biden and President Yoon Suk-yeol agreed to strengthen the alliance between the two countries on nuclear energy during Biden’s visit to Seoul on May 20.
During his campaign last year, Yoon promised to support Korea’s nuclear energy industry, reversing the policy of his predecessor.
Korea is currently bidding on nuclear projects in Saudi Arabia, Poland the Czech Republic.
The Yoon government is targeting the export of 10 nuclear power plants by 2030.
