President Yoon Suk-yeol vowed his government's all to support the bid for Busan to host the 2030 World Expo.

윤석열 대통령이 2030 세계박람회 부산 유치에 정부의 역량을 결집하겠다고 밝혔다.

Yoon said Tuesday he might appoint a special presidential envoy for the bid at a strategy meeting attended by some 30 key figures from government, business, the parliament and public institutions.

윤 대통령은 화요일 정부, 재계, 국회, 공공기관 등에서 주요인사 30여명이 참석한 유치전략회의에서 대통령 특사 파견도 검토하겠다고 말했다.

A committee comprised of business leaders was also launched at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center (BPEX), led by SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, who also serves as head of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

부산항국제전시컨벤션센터에서 재계 인사들로 구성된 2030 부산엑스포 유치 민간위원회도 출범했다. 대한상공회의소 회장인 최태원 SK그룹 회장이 민간위원회 위원장을 맡았다.

The strategy meeting was the first public-private joint meeting in which the new president checked on the status of the bid and discussed ways of making the bid succeed.

민관 합동회의로 처음 열린 유치 전략회의에서 신임 대통령은 유치 가능성을 점검했고 유치에 성공하기 위한 전략들을 논의했다.

Yoon called Korea's bid for the World Expo "a necessary task" from a national perspective and "a valuable opportunity for Korea to lead in global issues and share its experiences and strengths with the international community."

윤 대통령은 세계박람회 부산 유치는 국가 전체를 봐서도 반드시 이뤄내야 할 “필요한 일”이며, “대한민국이 글로벌 이슈를 선도하며 경험과 강점을 국제사회와 공유하는 소중한 기회가 될 것”이라고 말했다.

Yoon said that through the Expo, Busan could be "reborn as a world-class city" and that the southern region including Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang is expected to become a base for "leading the economic development of Northeast Asia."

윤 대통령은 “엑스포 개최를 통해 부산도 세계적 도시로 거듭나고 부산 울산 경남 남부권이 동북아 경제발전을 선도하는 핵심 거점이 될 것”이라고 말했다.
