Reacting to a possible sixth wave of the pandemic, Korea will offer fourth doses of Covid-19 vaccine to more people but not return to social distancing measures — at least yet. The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced a new set of health measures Wednesday as the country sees a resurgence of Covid-19 cases.

한국 정부는 코로나19 6차 대유행 가능성에 대응하면서 4차 백신 접종 대상자를 확대했으나 당분간은 사회적 거리두기 조치들을 다시 시행하지는 않는다고 밝혔다. 코로나19 신규 확진자가 다시 증가하자 중앙질병관리본부는 수요일 새로운 방역대책을 발표했다.

Under the plan, the government lowered eligibility requirements for fourth doses of coronavirus vaccines, while encourage more use of antiviral drugs.

eligibility: 적임, 적격
requirement: 필요, 필요조건
encourage: 권장하다, 격려하다

새 방역대책에 따르면, 항바이러스 치료제 처방을 권장하고 4차 코로나19 백신 접종 대상자를 확대했다.

Currently, groups eligible for a fourth vaccine dose are people over the age of 59; immunecompromised people; and residents or workers at nursing hospitals.

nursing hospital: 요양병원

현재는 4차 백신접종 대상자는 59세 이상 고령자, 면역저하자, 요양병원 거주자나 종사자들이다.

Eligibility is now expanded to include people in their 50s; people aged 18 or older with underlying diseases; and employees and residents in facilities for the handicapped and in homeless shelters.

underlying disease: 기저질환
handicapped: 장애가 있는
homeless shelter: 노숙자 쉼터

앞으로는 접종 대상이 50대로 확대되고, 18세 이상 기저질환자와 장애인 시설과 노숙자 쉼터 거주자나 피고용자들도 4차 백신을 접종할 수 있다.

“People in their 50s have a high prevalence of underlying disease conditions and have higher fatality rate than people below 50,” Peck Kyongran, the commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), said during a press briefing on Wednesday.

prevalence: 널리 퍼짐, 유행
fatality rate: 치명률

백경란 질병관리청장은 수요일 언론 브리핑에서 “50대는 기저질환이 있을 가능성이 높고 50세 이하보다 치명률이 높다”고 말했다.
