Three Korean animated short films including director Kim Kyeong-bae’s “Amen a Man” received awards at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival which ran from July 14 to Wednesday in Montreal, Canada.

According to Korea Creative Content Agency (Kocca) Thursday, “Amen a Man” by Kim Kyeong-bae won the Gold Prize for Best Animated Short Film. The jury noted, “the film successfully presented its criticism on a society’s paradoxical understanding of charity as well as on Korean Christianity.”

Under the same category, “Things that Disappear” by Kim Chang-soo won the Silver Prize. Park Sung-bae’s “You Can Fly!” received a Special Mention by the Young Jury of My First Fantasia.

The Fantasia Film Festival, based in Montreal, Canada, is one of the largest genre film festivals in North America held annually in July.

During the festival period, Kocca opened a special exhibition co-hosted by Korea Independent Animation Filmmakers Association and the Korean Cultural Centre Canada to introduce 44 animated independent short films and feature animated films such as “Chun Tae-il” (2021).

For the exhibition program, director Moon Soo-jin of “Persona,” which became the first Korean animated film to be invited to the Cannes Film Festival, director Hong Joon-pyo of “Chun Tae-il,” director Min Ji-hye of “Goodbye, Drama!” and Kim of “Amen a Man” held panel discussions with audiences.
