Shinsegae Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin met with Incheon Mayor Yoo Jung-bok on Wednesday to discuss various projects being pursued in Cheongna International City, which is in Incheon.

Their talks covered plans for a multi-purpose domed stadium in Incheon for hosting professional baseball games and K-pop concerts. The stadium will be built in connection with Starfield Cheongna, the city government said.

"Through prompt promotion of the plan for a dome in Cheongna, we'll make sure Incheon will be ahead of other municipalities in opening the era of a domed stadiums," Chung said.

"I hope the city of Incheon and Shinsegae will cooperate with each other as partners in the regional development," Yoo said.

Starfield Cheongna, which is under construction on a 165,000-square-meter site in the Cheongna area, is an integrated shopping mall with fashion, food, culture and entertainment. It is scheduled to be opened in the second-half of 2024. The city invested a total of 1.3 trillion won in the project and expects 4,000 jobs to be created.

Emart owns 99.9 percent of Starfield Cheonga and is also the owner of the SSG Landers.

The 20,000-seat dome stadium to be built along with the shopping mall is set to be a multipurpose venue, hosting not only baseball games but also K-pop concerts, e-sports competitions and exhibitions.

In addition, Incheon City and Shinsegae are working together on a plan to create a new "Starfield Cheongna" subway station on the extended Seoul Metro Line 7, which connects Seoknam-dong in Incheon's Seo District to Cheongna International City station.
