Infectious disease committee proposes abolishing Covid tests for incoming travelers
A proposal to abolish the Covid-19 testing requirement for travelers entering Korea from overseas was made to the government, according to the National Infectious Diseases Consulting Committee on Monday.
“PCR tests that are done 48 hours before departure and rapid antigen test done 24 hours before should be eventually abolished,” said Jung Ki-suck, head of the National Infectious Diseases Consulting Committee during a briefing session on Monday.
Covid-19 tests required for all arrivals within 24 hours after landing in Korea should be maintained, according to the committee.
When and how to abolish the test requirement will be further discussed, said Jung.
During the briefing, Jung added that a big data system for infectious diseases should be established to come up with reasonable policies based on scientific facts.
