SHI receives order for four LNG carriers worth $846 million
Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced Tuesday that it had received an order for four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers worth 1.2 trillion won ($846 million) in total: two from a shipper in Bermuda and two from a shipper in Africa.
The four LNG carriers are scheduled to be delivered to the buyers by September 2025. Specifics on the size and classes of the carriers have not yet been disclosed.
With this new set of orders, SHI has reached a cumulative order of 37 ships in total this year, worth $7.2 billion altogether, achieving 82 percent of its annual target of $8.8 billion.
SHI has been filling its target with high-value-added vessels, having won orders for a total of 28 LNG carriers.
“Strong market demand for LNG carriers is expected to continue for the time being,” said a spokesperson from SHI. “We plan to continue winning additional orders based on projects that will secure profitability.”
