Nexon Town brings Nexon games together in metaverse

Nexon Town, the new 3-D online community service released by Nexon [NEXON]

Nexon Town, a new 3-D social media service, opened for early access on Thursday.

Nexon Town is a virtual community where users interact with each other using the items and characters from Nexon’s online games, such as Mabinogi, MapleStory and Crazy Arcade.

Virtual conference halls, classrooms and plazas will enable users to hold online events and exchange digital, files such as PDFs or videos. Users will also be able to decorate their own spaces like virtual houses.

It is similar to the metaverse services released by other tech companies, but it will aim to differentiate itself by integrating its service with all of Nexon’s games in the future, according to Nexon.

So through Nexon Town, users will be able to communicate with users of various games and trade in-game items in one place.

“Nexon Town is a project meant to expand user experience and increase the connectivity of our games,” the company said in a press release. “We will turn it into a hub for all our games with a unique user-oriented service.”

Earlier this month, Nexon released MapleStory Worlds, a metaverse service utilizing the MapleStory online game. Users can create their own world and share it with others or play mini game, like growing farms or mining in mountains.

The Gangnam-gu Office signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Nexon on Thursday and set up a virtual education center within MapleStory Worlds.
