China's Alipay+ connects Asean payment providers in Korea
According to the company on Tuesday, the travelers using AlipayHK, GCash from the Philippines, Malaysia's Touch'nGo and Thatland's TrueMoney in Thailand will be able to make purchase at 120,000 stores when traveling in Korea via Alipay+, a cross-border digital payment solution.
It is the first time in which mobile payment providers in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong have been able to work through Alipay+ in Korea.
With the pandemic subsiding, travel is on the rise and more people are traveling to Korea from Southeast Asia.
According to the Korea Tourism Organization, over 800,000 foreigners traveled to Korea in the first half, which is a 92.8 percent increase year-on-year. Tourists from Asean countries were 30.3 percent of the total.
"It is our pleasure to connect merchants in Korea with a variety of mobile payment methods, enabling Asian tourists to pay with convenience and simplicity in Korea," said Danny Chung, Ant Group, Korea, Australia and New Zealand general manger.
