Hankook Tire and Technology will be the exclusive tire supplier of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship for the next four years.

The Korean tire maker announced the deal it made Wednesday, which will take effect starting with the 2022-23 tournament season that is scheduled to kick off in January in Mexico City.

Formula E is a motorsport championship that uses only electric vehicles. Hankook Tire's iON tires will be used for the Gen3 race cars.

The upcoming Formula E will be the first event to use Gen3 vehicles, which can reach a maximum of 320 kilometers (198 miles) per hour. Gen2 vehicles are able to reach max 280 kilometers per hour.

The tires used in the races will all be recycled afterwards, the company said.

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship was launched in 2014 and officially became a Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile world championship in 2020, alongside other leading motorsports circuits including Formula One and the World Rally Championship.

The final event of the 2021-22 Formula E season was held on the streets around the Jamsil Stadium complex in southern Seoul in August.
