KT signed a business agreement with AMC Networks, a U.S. cable channel operator, to exclusively distribute AMC's original content and co-produce new content, the telco said Wednesday.

The deal was signed by KT, KT’s content subsidiary KT Studio Genie, AMC Networks and AMC Studios. AMC Studios is famed as the production company of “The Walking Dead” zombie television series franchise.

KT will begin by providing six of AMC’s latest series including “The Walking Dead: Origin” to viewers who are signed up to an 11,000-won ($8) monthly subscription plan called the Prime Super Pack starting Wednesday.

More content from AMC’s streaming service AMC+ will be added onto KT’s service each week starting October, including the new “Interview with the Vampire” horror drama series, according to KT.

KT Studio Genie will also co-produce and carry out other joint businesses with AMC Studios in the future, though details have not yet been decided.

“The exclusive partnership with AMC proves that KT is shifting the Korean media content market,” said Kim Hoon-bae, executive vice president at KT’s media platform business unit. “We hope to discover diverse business opportunities between the two companies by servicing AMC+’s popular content and co-producing content based on both companies’ intellectual properties [IP].”
