Return of the duck

On Thursday, Seoul’s beloved enormous yellow rubber duck returned to Seokchon Lake in Songpa District, southern Seoul. The opening ceremony, hosted by Lotte World Tower and Songpa District Office, took place in participation with Florentijn Hofman, the 45-year-old Dutch artist behind the 18-meter (59-feet) high inflatable installation. “Rubber Duck Project Seoul 2022” is the duck’s second time in Korea, the last being in 2014. This time, Hofman has added additional 1.4-meter high Halloween-themed duck sculptures, which are scattered inside the Lotte World Mall. “When we were asked to bring it in again, I immediately said yes," Hofman said. "The Korean people loved it so much [that I thought] ‘let’s give it as a present again in these hard times.’” The rubber ducks will remain until Oct. 31. [SHIN MIN-HEE]
