Green space

A plot of land triple the size of Seoul Plaza in Jongno District, central Seoul, will open to the public on Friday for the first time in nearly a century, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced. Visitors will be able to walk on the green space in Songhyeon-dong, near Gwanghwamun, until late 2024. From 2025, the park will be closed again to build a museum for the donated artworks of the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee. The land was home to royal families of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) before being used as a residential area for staff members of the U.S. Embassy. The photo shows an artist rendering of the cultural park that is scheduled to open in 2027. [YONHAP]
