Hyundai Rotem sees success with terrain-specified K2 Main Battle Tank

Hyundai Rotem is strengthening its position as Korea’s sole supplier of MBTs (main battle tanks), family vehicles and wheeled armored vehicles (8x8, 6x6, command and post vehicle).

The K2 Black Panther is Hyundai Rotem’s signature model, and is currently undergoing its third batch of mass-production.

The vehicle is equipped with auto-loaded 120mm 55-caliber smoothbore gun, boasting intensive firepower with only three crewmen in accordance to its automatic loading systems.

K2 Black Panther designed for the Middle East have Remote Control Weapon Systems (RCWS) and 360-degree situational awareness camera that detects the approach of nearby combatants. Also, improved cooling systems allow for the most optimal usage in adaptive environments.

The active protective systems on the model apply both soft-kill and hard-kill functions, taking articulate measures to not only escape but also intercept missiles.

In August 2022, K2 Black Panther entered the European market successfully after signing the K2 Gap Filler Execution contract. Hyundai Rotem is expanding its business to the Europe and Middle East.

The company successfully displayed the K2 Black Panther at the World Defense Show 2022 in Saudi Arabia in March. It will continue such efforts at the International Defense Exhibition & Conference 2023.

“We plan on diversifying our regional K2 Black Panther in order to gain global acknowledgement,” said a Hyundai Rotem official. “Furthermore, research and development for multipurpose self-driving vehicles will constantly be made in the future.”
