President Yoon Suk-yeol and first lady Kim Keon-hee sent cards and donations to 15 organizations to help the underprivileged ahead of holiday season, said the presidential office on Tuesday.

The organizations include the Community Chest of Korea, Korean Red Cross, Korean National Tuberculosis Association, ChildFund Korea, World Vision, Save the Children, Good Neighbors, Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity Korea.

"The warmth that you share is the light and hope of society," read the card that the presidential couple sent to the organizations, according to deputy presidential spokesperson Lee Jae-myoung in a press briefing.

"The government will also contribute to your efforts so that no one is left behind," they wrote, to "move toward a better future based on the spirit of solidarity."

Lee said that the cards and donations were delivered by the senior presidential secretaries to the organizations in person.

It comes as a part of the presidential couple's efforts to help out children and underprivileged people in society ahead of Christmas.

Last Thursday, Kim volunteered with the Saemaul Undong Center's Busan branch and delivered daily necessities to the elderly living in so-called jjokbangchon, a cluster of single-rooms rented to low-income people, with college students, according to the presidential office.

During this visit, Kim expressed her regret at the decline in the public interest of the plight of such lonely elderly people living alone and expressed her gratitude to the young volunteers working with the Saemaul center "so that the neighbors in such dire conditions are not left out."
