Cold wave warnings were issued across the country Wednesday as temperatures recorded the lowest this year. Heavy snow continued to fall in South Chungcheong and North and South Jeolla.

The temperature in Seoul was minus 10.7 degrees Celsius (12.7 degrees Fahrenheit) on Wednesday, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). Cheorwon County in Gangwon recorded the lowest temperature at minus 13 degrees, while Incheon was minus 10.5, Daejeon minus 9.9 and Daegu minus 5.8.

As cold air from the northwest of the peninsula moves south, temperatures in the central region will stay below freezing even during the day. The morning temperatures will be between minus 5 to 15 degrees “for the time being,” according to the KMA.

Snow is expected across the country Thursday, with 2 to 7 centimeters (0.8 to 2.8 inches) of snow expected to accumulate in the inland area between Gyeonggi, Gangwon and North Chungcheong, while 1 to 5 centimeters of snow is expected in the Seoul and Incheon area.
